Canada Launches Local Development Fund to Support Grassroots Initiatives in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras

1.0x

The Government of Canada has announced the launch of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras, aimed at empowering grassroots organizations and promoting inclusive development across Central America.

This fund focuses on supporting projects led by local civil society groups that align with Canada's global priorities, including gender equality, environmental sustainability, democratic governance, human rights, and inclusive economic growth.
Canadian officials emphasized the importance of strengthening community-driven solutions in regions facing social, economic, and political challenges. The CFLI offers financial and technical support to small-scale but high-impact projects that foster resilience, innovation, and social progress.

Organizations from the three countries are encouraged to apply, with priority given to projects that amplify marginalized voices—particularly women, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+ communities, and youth.

The initiative reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation and its belief that local solutions are vital for long-term change.
