In a significant political development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi have announced a united front to challenge President Bola Tinubu's administration in the upcoming 2027 elections. The trio voiced their commitment during a public lecture in Abuja commemorating Amaechi's 60th birthday, emphasizing their shared goal to address the nation's economic challenges and governance issues.

Atiku criticized the current administration for "weaponizing poverty," asserting that policies under Tinubu's leadership have exacerbated economic hardships for Nigerians. He highlighted the increasing number of citizens living in poverty and emphasized the need for a government that prioritizes the welfare of its people.

Echoing Atiku's sentiments, El-Rufai described Nigeria's present economic and political situation as the most severe since the country's amalgamation in 1914. He stressed the importance of forming a coalition to "take Nigeria back," indicating a collective effort to restore the nation's prosperity and unity.

Amaechi questioned the transparency and effectiveness of the government's economic reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates. He expressed concerns over the lack of clarity regarding the benefits of these policies for the average Nigerian.

The event also saw participation from other notable political figures, including former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus and ex-governors Gabriel Suswam, Babangida Aliyu, Liyel Imoke, and Seriake Dickson. Their presence underscores a growing momentum among opposition leaders to form a formidable alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This coalition aims to present a unified front to address the nation's pressing issues and offer alternative policies that prioritize the well-being of all Nigerians.
